The decorated face of the transplanted Pictish symbol stone at Broomend of Critchie. The lower device is a classic "crescent and V-rod" motif, whilst there has been some speculation that the upper is a rare representation of an elephant. This low angle illumination shot reveals that the top carving is actually that of a horse, the slim hip region, mane, and characteristic jaw shape are all visible. But it is easy to see how the scrolled carving of the front legs can be misinterpreted as a trunk and tusks.
