The roof of the north compartment of the western side cell.
The side cell roof here is one of only two surviving originals, it has the edge-laid stones used in every instance intact roofing within the cairn. It is very likely
that all of the side cell roofs were originally roofed in this manner.
The two compartments of the western side cell have completely separate roofing structures, why this complex arrangement was employed instead of
a much simpler single roof is a mystery, although the two roofs do have exactly the same height, at 1.67m above their floors.
