Cuween Hill

 

The entrance to the northern side-cell.
There is a step, 0.28m above the main chamber floor here, and behind this a sill, or kerb stone set on edge and bonded into the side walls.  Henshall
describes the floor of the cell as being "only a little above the level of the chamber floor", that is not we observed, and not what our photos show.
We were surprised how thin the lintel stone to the doorway was, some of the walling slabs are thicker, the side cell entrances at Wideford Hill and
Quoyness cairns were much more substantial.
