All three components of the cairn structure are apparent here, the cairn core is tallest in the centre, the primary outer casing is next highest and the secondary outer casing surrounds the inner two.
There is some debate about the appearence of the cairn when originally complete, one school of thought proposes a "domical mound", much like Maes Howe's current form, the other suggests that
the primary casing was as tall as the core and the secondary higher than it is now, with a smooth, slightly domed upper surface covering all three.
