Petrie found the opening to a passage in SE corner here (lower right) that ran for 2.5m to end
in bedrock. There is a visible vertical joint centre photo, presumably
where the walling was
made
good in modern times, but note the lack of a large lintel stone anywhere in this
wall. Every other opening in the cairn has a massive lintel
stone to support the
huge weight of masonry above it. As the cairn was intact upon opening it is hard
to see why this one area of walling would have an unsupported
hole in it big enough to crawl into.
