Le Dehus

Flint blade.

A double edged blade of black translucent flint, 8.6cm long with a median ridge. One end is broken and
there is no evidence of retouching. The blade was found in an unspecified side chamber in 1898 by the
Rev. G.E.Lee as he supervised restorations carried out then..

There are no naturally occurring deposits of flint in the Channel Islands, so a blade of this size and
quality must have been a very valued possession.  Dehus had already been extensively excavated
by the Lukis family before the discovery of this blade, so there is some doubt about this being a primary
deposit or a find from the backfill.
