La Hougue Bie - interior

The view east along the length of the chamber and passage to the entrance portal.
The "sanctuary" sill slab is flanked by the jamb stones in the foreground and the view
towards the passage is narrowed by the chamber segmenting stones.
The two niches behind each jamb stone held "betyles" or small standing stones, one
in the northern (left) niche is visible in this shot. Note how the contents of the niches
are completely screened from the view of anyone standing in the main chamber or passage.
