La Hougue Bie

La Hougue Bie - wellhead

The well-head viewed from the north.

This traditional Jersey well-head is a relatively modern addition having been moved here in 1925 from
L'Anciennette Farm in St Brelade. The well itself was probably dug in the early 19th century, the present structure
standing on remains from this time. There are claims of the site being a medieval Holy Well, but excavation
revealed that the 19th century remains directly overlaid neolithic strata, so there is no evidence to support
this theory.
