Mnajdra - Temple 3

The terminal altar of Temple 3.

Similar in construction to the terminal altar of Temple 2, the slabs used here are also massive, although
the flanking stones are not as tall. The table slab was originally supported by the two pillars at the sides,
broken in antiquity, it has been repaired and extra modern block-work pillars have been inserted to support it.
Just visible in the shadows of the furthest right recess of the under altar space are foot-holes cut into the
stonework of the wall. The corner of the altar slab is cut away here and this arrangement has been
interpreted as a possible original route to the temple roof, albeit a little less elegant than the fine flight
 of stairs discovered at Tarxien.
