Auchquhorthies

A high level view of Auchquorthies from the south.
Note how the recumbent is set back inside the circumference of the stone circle, this is a trait often seen in Kincardineshire
recumbent circles. There appears to have been a special arrangement in front of the recumbent, it was framed by two of the
circle stones, the western lies fallen but the eastern can be seen standing to the right of recumbent in the photo above.
These two stones were shorter than the height grading of the would dictate and they were each linked to the edges of the recumbent
by a curved row of kerb-like stones, traces of the western line can be seen above, in front of, and to the left of, the western flanker.
These two rows created a trapezoidal space before the recumbent reminiscent of the forecourts of chambered tombs.
