The western cell or "bench" on the north wall of the chamber.
Two of the three vertical slabs set into the northern wall are visible here, the central stone (right) and the western (left). The shelf arrangement seen
here is confusing, being comprised of at least three full length slabs. In his diagram, Grant
(4) shows only one slab here, but a drawing in Lady Burroughs'
journal shows an arrangement very close to that above.
The bones of a crouched skeleton were found on the bench in this cell.
The internal spaces of the western end cell can be seen on the left, and far left top and bottom is the west edge of the entrance passage from
where this photo was taken.
