The terminal altar of Temple 2.
Very similar in structure to the
terminal altar of Temple 3, the example here has a large top-slab
supported by pillars, and flanked by two very tall stones. The northern flanking
stone seems to have
been erected on a taller base than the southern, further exaggerating the height
disparity between them.
Whether this arrangement was original, or a result of restoration is unknown.
Note the hollow worked into the
top of the upper edge of the left upright, five more, of smaller diameter can be
seen on the bottom half of the
edge of the right hand upright.
The small stones above the the altar back-stones and the upper stonework to the left of the left
upright are
all modern.
Note the large sill-stone which lies across the entrance to the northern inner
apse, bottom right.
